Two quick things

One: Be ready as I'm hitting 2013 running. Not only am I working on a "How To" handout/book for anyone interested I am hitting the woods this weekend to do a ton of videoing of post-season work, scouting and planning!

Two: Since most hunters are in some fashion fond of guns I figured I'd share this link over to my newest post and my more day-to-day blog that really has no set theme or direction.

I just started a three part series over there titled "Untwisting the Gun-Debate". Feel free to share it with friends or anyone that is on either side of the gun debate. Both sides must be able to look in the mirror and remove the knee-jerk reactions. Click HERE to go there.

2013...you here yet!

So I still may get out this weekend (last chance in IN) but for the most part I'm done this season. God has blessed me for quite a few years in a row with a buck tag filled but this year it just didn't work out. I saw lots of bucks, as a matter of fact it may have been the most bucks I've seen in a single season...just nothing the caliber I was seeking.

However, that is hunting and to be honest this year has been my favorite one yet. I was constantly getting to know our new property better, understanding why yet again our Homestead property is great and the whole way chasing some studs.

As anyone who read some of the past posts the main target was RD, and after hearing he was shot at and hit by someone opening day of gun but not recovered my heart sank...assuming a 10 yard shot would only have one end result: his death. Well I'm proud to announce not only is AWD (All Wheel Drive) alive and well going into the final days of our hunting season (pretty much a shoe in for surviving the year) so is RD!!!! And wouldn't you know another true STUD has made an appearance late season.

Now there is a chance that the new comer is in some of our old photos of what we thought was AWD from the side...going to be looking back at old photos now that we have a clearly identified third buck, Houdini.

So for your viewing pleasure I give you the three studs I'm hoping my father and I chase and succeed in harvesting 2 from next season:

AWD: An awesome narrow and I assume younger buck. He sports a basic 5x5 rack, but to kick things into an extra level he's got split brows and is working on kickers from both G2s!!

Houdini: The newcomer to be officially identified head on. Obviously a fighter with a broken G3. He sports a clean 5x5 rack and appears to be related to RD with his insanely long brows. He's got the most heft mass wise too and appears to be the oldest buck out of the three.

RD: The gem of my eye this year and was almost killed countless times by me...just yards away on trail cams it seemed atleast once a week during a hunt. A very clean, wide and tall 4x4...that may spring into a 4x5 if the nub of a G4 blossoms next season.
